Wheel 101

For newbies to clay who have no previous experience throwing on the wheel, or want a complete refresher on the process. An 8 week course that introduces students to the fundamentals of wheel throw pottery, led by a qualified, expert ceramicist with over 7 years experience making and teaching. Students will learn methods for centering their clay, pulling up their walls, and shaping pieces. We will also review basic methods of form manipulation, connection (adding pieces like handles to forms), glazing, and methods of decoration. 

  • Tools and bats are available for use during class, but purchasing your own is highly recommended. Tools can be purchased here.

  • Clay for class must be purchased from Solid Earth, there are several options to choose from, ranging in color and price. 

  • Class participants are eligible for a discounted membership at $75 per month, regularly $150, for the two months of their class plus one additional month to finish up any projects they had in the works.


Handbuilding for Beginners

 An 8 week course designed to introduce beginners to the basics of hand-building, including coils, slabs, etc.


Try the Wheel Workshop

$75

Fun, approachable, but informative and great way to try out a new hobby or medium that you’ve always wanted.

Learn the basics of throwing, including centering, pulling up walls, shaping, trimming, and glazing.

Date Night Workshop

$170/couple

Bring your romantic partner, bring a friend, bring your mom! Just don’t forget the wine! Try out the potter’s wheel in a fun, relaxed setting. An intimate, expert-led instructive, but also open ended experience to get your hands dirty and make a wobbly bowl to bring home! All tools and supplies included. Your final piece (or two–limit two) will be glazed and fired by our technician and available for pickup in 1-3 weeks.
